Catawba Cobbler

1 tea-spoon sugar

What it is:  Additive
Many 19th century recipes specifically called for white sugar, which is more refined and preferred over browner sugars. But modern white sugar is probably too refined, making raw cane sugar the best, easily available choice.

2 wine-glass Catawba wine

Ingredient: Catawba wine

What it is:  Wine

American wine grown from the Catawba grape, predominantly on the East Coast of the U.S.. This purplish-red grape has a rather sweet and a pronounced musky or "foxy" flavor.

(Use large bar glass.)

Fill tumbler with shaved ice, and ornament with sliced orange and berries in season. Place a straw as described in the sherry cobbler.
