An anise-flavored spirit derived from herbs, including the flowers and leaves of the herb Artemisia absinthium (wormwood). Absinthe traditionally has a natural green color but can also be colorless. Although absinthe was vilified, no evidence has shown it to be any more dangerous than ordinary spirits.

Broad category of alcoholic beverages that are distilled from fermented grain mash. Different grains are used for different varieties, including barley, malted barley, rye, malted rye, wheat, and corn (maize). A mixing-glass half-full of fine ice, two dashes gum syrup, one pony absinthe, one-half pony Italian vermouth, one-half pony whiskey. Mix well, strain into thin glass, fill with seltzer.
