May Wine Punch

Take one or two bunches of Waldmeister or Woodruff, and cut it up in two or three lengths, place it into a large bar glass, and fill up the balance with French Brandy, cover it up and let it stand for two or three hours, until the essence of the Woodruff is thoroughly extracted; cover the bottom of the bowl with loaf sugar, and pour from:
1 to 2 bunch Woodruff

Woodruff is a strongly scented plant, the sweet scent being derived from coumarin. This scent increases on wilting and then persists on drying, and woodruff is used in pot-pourri and as a moth deterrent. It is also used, mainly in Germany, to flavour May wine (called "Maiwein" or "Maibowle" in German), beer (Berliner Weisse), brandy, sausages, jelly, jam, a soft drink (Tarhun), ice cream, and a herbal tea with gentle sedative properties.

4 to 6 bottle soda water

8 bottle Rhine wine

Germany produces wines in many style, but wines from along the Rhine river valley been predominantly white, slightly sweet, low in alcohol, light and un-oaked.

Sparkling wine produced by inducing the in-bottle secondary fermentation of the wine to effect carbonation. It is produced exclusively within the Champagne region of France.

(Use a large punch bowl.)

Then put your Woodruff and Brandy, etc., into the bowl, and stir up with a ladle, and you will have 2-1/2 to 3 gallons of excellent May Wine Punch; surround the bowl with ice, serve in a wine glass in such a manner that each customer will get a piece of all of the fruits contained in the punch.
